2024 IWF Asian Championships: Ali Alipour won Gold in the Men’s 89 kg Category

The 2024 Asian Championships are now at the point where the heavyweight categories are starting, and what better opener than the men’s 89 kg event, which has always delivered high emotions and fantastic competition?

Unfortunately, even though we witnessed many great performances, there could only be one winner, and that was Ali Alipour from Iran.

The Iranian showed a fantastic performance, lifting 163 kg for the snatch on his third attempt, which gave him the silver medal for that lift, and 200 kg on the Clean&Jerk for his second silver-medal performance.

The combined total of his lifts – 363 kg ultimately helped him win the gold medal for the division, with only one kilogram more than second-placed Sarvarbek Zafarjonov.

For Ali Alipour, this was his first competition as a senior weightlifter and he showed a total that was 12 kg higher than what he previously had lifted at the World Junior Championships in Mexico just three months ago. Unfortunately for all those wanting to move up the Paris rankings, his win didn’t give them too many options.
