News Europe 2024 Olympic Weightlifting

Celia Henna Gold achieved Silver in the Clean & Jerk in the Women’s 71 kg Category at the 2024 European Weightlifting Championships

On day 5 of the European Championships in Sofia, it was time to witness the women’s 71 kg category, and the athletes didn’t disappoint.

We saw some spectacular lifts and some surprising performances that will stay with us for a while.

One of the lifters who managed to show a fantastic performance and left us shocked was Celia Henna Gold from Israel, who won the silver medal for the Clean & Jerk movement with the smallest possible difference.

The Israeli athlete started strong, lifting 124 kg on her first attempt.

However, on her second attempt, she put in 128 kg and was unsuccessful in getting a green light. Finally, on her last attempt, she managed to lift 128 kg, and because she lifted this weight before Sarah Davies (who took 3rd place), she was able to win the silver medal for the movement.

Unfortunately, thanks to her performance in the Snatch, she was unable to get into a podium spot in the overall rankings and finished in fifth place.

At last year’s Europeans, Celia finished fifth overall, too; however, her Clean & Jerk improved by 5 kg. After that, she wasn’t able to get impressive results on her way to qualifying for Paris, so her performance in Sofia was incredibly important.
