Elisa Misiano Smashes Sub-Junior Squat Record of 138.5-Kg

The 2023 International Powerlifting Federation (IPCF) World Junior and Sub-Junior Powerlifting Championships are set to take place in the vibrant Romanian city of Cluj Napoca from August 24 to September 3.

A new powerlifting sensation has emerged onto the scene – young Italian Elisa Misiano. Donning the traditional attire of a weight belt and knee sleeves, Misiano approached the barbell with unwavering determination.

Misiano’s achievement transcends being just her first world record. She surpassed the record set by Russian Elizaveta Nikitina, who squatted 138 kg at the 2019 European Powerlifting Federation (EPF) European Classic Championships.

There are high hopes within the world powerlifting community that Misiano will continue to elevate her performance. Despite facing initial challenges and failing to lock in the 135 kg weight, she triumphed on her next attempt, setting a new world record.

Misiano’s impressive numbers:

  • Squat: 138.5 kg (305.3 lbs) – a Junior world record.
  • Bench press: 72.5 kg (159.8 lbs) – Personal best.
  • Deadlift: 127.5 kg (281.1 lbs) – Personal best.
  • Total: 338.5 kg (742.3 lbs) – Personal best.
  • Despite her light weight of 49.64 kg, Misiano stood out as the lightest athlete in her discipline.
