Hristo Hristov won Silver (Total) in the Men’s 109 kg Category (2024 European Weightlifting Championships)

For host nation Bulgaria, the 8th day of the European Championships was another successful one, as they won another silver medal in the men’s 109 kg category.

After a tremendous battle for the top spots, Hristo Hristov managed to tough it out and gave a performance deserving of second place in the overall ranking.

He began the competition day successfully – getting all three of his Snatch lifts and achieving 175 kg, which was enough to put in second place and win the first silver medal of the day.

On the Clean & Jerk, the Bulgarian was not performing as well, lifting 205 kg, which left him out of the first three spots. However, his total of 380 kg (two kg more than third-placed Matthaus Hofmann) was enough for him to win the silver medal in the overall ranking for the men’s 109 kg category.

Hristo Hristov has been representing Bulgaria on the world stage for quite some time, and his best results include a gold medal from the 2022 European Championships in Tirana and a fifth place from the Olympics Games in Tokyo.

Last year, the Bulgarian didn’t participate in the Europeans due to injury, but he performed quite well at the World Championships in Riyadh, where he finished fourth overall.
