News Europe 2024 Olympic Weightlifting

Matthaeus Hofmann won Bronze in the Men’s 109 kg Category (2024 European Weightlifting Championships)

The men’s heavyweight 109 kg category is always enticing, and the promise of a fantastic competition is the expectation amongst weightlifting fans. Thankfully, on day 8 of the European Championships, the men competing in the 109 kg category didn’t disappoint.

One of the surprises we saw emerge was Germany’s Matthaeus Hofmann, who had a memorable performance that ended with him claiming the final podium spot.

Hoffmann started off well, lifting 167 kg on his first Snatch attempt, then failing the second for 169 kg, ultimately achieving 172 kg with his final lift.

That result put him third, having won the bronze medal for the lift. His performance on the Clean & Jerk was even better, with all three lifts successful and the final one of 206 kg being enough to get him two more bronze medals – for the movement and in the overall rankings for the category.
