Yusuf Fehmi Genc achieved Silver in Clean & Jerk in the Men’s 73 kg Category at the 2024 European Weightlifting Championships

As we approach the end of the European Championships in Sofia, we’re starting to get into the heavier weight categories, which, of course, means that day 4th was reserved for the men’s 73 kg division.

The competition was a good one for Yusuf Fehmi Genc from Turkey, who managed to get the bronze medal for the Clean & Jerk movement.

He started off with a shaky performance on the Snatch lift, getting only 144 kg and placing 8th on the overall table.

However, later on, he managed to pull off a way better lifting performance with 184 kg on the Clean & Jerk from his second attempt, which was enough to get him the bronze medal. He tried pursuing 186 kg, but wasn’t able to lift the weight on his second and third attempts.

During last year’s European’s. Genc ended up finishing first on the C&J lift and again fifth overall, thanks to a weaker performance on the Snatch. His biggest career success came when he was competing in the lower weight class (67 kg), and in 2022, he managed to win a silver medal at the World Junior Championships and the European Junior Championships.
